The Son of Man: Our King Forever
Scripture: Daniel 7:13–14 | Mark 10:45 | Luke 19:10
There is something remarkable about the promises of God concerning the Son of Man.
In Daniel 7:13–14, Daniel sees a vision of One like a Son of Man coming before the Ancient of Days. To Him is given dominion, glory, and a kingdom. And what makes this promise so powerful is that His dominion is everlasting. His kingdom will never pass away, and His authority will never come to an end.
Think about that for a moment.
Jesus Christ is not simply our King today. He is our King forever.
His glory is forever. His dominion is forever. His kingdom is forever.
Everything we know in this world is temporary. Kingdoms rise and fall. Leaders come and go. Authority changes hands, and even the greatest accomplishments of men eventually fade. But not Jesus. His kingdom is not temporary, and His promises do not have an expiration date.
Yet there is something even more remarkable about this Son of Man.
The One who possesses eternal glory is the same One who willingly entered our humanity.
Jesus Christ is not simply a man who was given authority. He is God who took on humanity. He is fully God and fully man. When He came into this world, He did not surrender His deity. He took on humanity, experiencing hunger, weariness, sorrow, suffering, and even death, yet without sin.
The same Son of Man who has an everlasting kingdom is the One who walked among us, served others, and willingly laid down His life.
And why did He come?
Jesus tells us in Luke 19:10 that the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.
In Mark 10:45, He declares that the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.
Consider the significance of those words.
The One who deserves to be served by all creation came to serve His creation.
The One who possesses all authority willingly submitted Himself to suffering.
The One who has everlasting life came to lay down His life so that we might live.
And He knew what was coming.
Jesus knew the rejection He would face. He knew the suffering He would endure. He knew the cross was before Him. Yet knowing all of this, He continued toward Jerusalem.
He wasn't surprised by the rejection. He wasn't caught off guard by the suffering. His death was not an accident or a failure of God's plan.
He knew the cost, and still He came.
He willingly laid down His life for us.
Sometimes we look at the cross and see only the suffering of Jesus. But we must remember who it was that suffered.
It was the Son of Man to whom all dominion, glory, and an everlasting kingdom belong.
He did not suffer because He lacked authority. He suffered because He loved us and was obedient to the Father's will.
And His suffering was not the end of the story. The Son of Man who suffered and died rose again, victorious over death!
Today, we serve a risen Savior whose kingdom has no end. The same Jesus who came to seek and save the lost is the King who will reign forever.
And because He is our everlasting Savior, the salvation He provides is eternal. The life He offers is not merely for this world, but for eternity.
So when life feels uncertain, when circumstances change, and when the things of this world seem unstable, remember the promise of Daniel 7.
His dominion is everlasting. His glory will never fade. His kingdom will never be destroyed.
And this everlasting King loved us enough to give His life so that we could have eternal life in Him.
But that brings us to a question we each must answer.
It isn't simply whether we recognize Jesus as the Son of Man. The question is whether we have surrendered our lives to Him.
The One who will reign forever is the One who came to seek and save us. He knew the cost. He knew the suffering. He knew the cross. And still, He came.
He was willing to give His life so that we could have life in Him.
What are we doing with the life He has given us?
A Thought for Today
The Son of Man who will reign forever is the same Son of Man who willingly suffered for you. If He loved you enough to give His life for you, you can trust Him with the life you live today.
